The Lamb

Mention the name Cardinal Bernard Law in some circles and you are libel to start an all out brawl. See Cardinal Law was the man in charge of the Catholic Church in Boston, MA. Some say this man was responsible for shuttling child molesting priests from one church to another in order to hide their sins.

His name rightfully brings feelings of anger to most of us because we simply can't imagine what possible motive such a powerful church leader would have in hiding these crimes. But those feelings are exactly why we can't understand. Let's examine the problem a little further and you will see what I mean.

Imagine if you will you are a young boy. Your parents a fairly religious and you've attended church every Sunday since you can remember. You've spent countless weeks of your life in bible school; you even attend a Catholic academic school of study. Your life seems to center around God and the church.

As you get a little older you begin to have feelings of attraction for others, but something is not right. Your attraction doesn't seem to jive with the bible's teachings. In fact, the bible is in direct opposition to what you seem to be feeling. You tuck those feelings away, knowing from your learning that they are wrong.

A few years go by and your urges grow in intensity. As your understanding of the world grows, so does your fear that your sole will be lost. You turn towards the church and to God for help. You immerse yourself in bible study. You lead your church's youth groups. You pray for God to help you.

You are now a young adult. The feelings you fear still present. You believe that you have not shown God your faith, so you move further in your pursuit of healing. You enter the seminary on course to dedicate your life to the church and to God.

Years later you are tending your own flock. The head of your church, hundreds look to you for spiritual guidance and leadership. You're proud of the good you do in your community, but are ever mindful of the evil inside you fight everyday to hold back.

Finally, one day while alone with one of your alter boys, the line is crossed ever-so-slightly. While sitting on your lap telling you of the problems his parents are having, you find yourself unable to restrain the arousal growing between your legs. You push the boy off your lap and out of your office in anger and he is left with feelings as though he had done something wrong. You hate yourself for not being able to control your urges. You question why God would let such a thing occur.

These occurrences begin to recur more often and soon you lose all the faith you once had in your God. He has abandoned you when you have needed him the most. You dedicated your life to him, how could he do this to you! With your faith abandoned, the only restraint holding you back from committing a mortal sin is gone.

One of Cardinal Laws largest opponents has documented over 300,000 child molestation incidents that have occurred in the Catholic Church in Boston. Of those 300,000 less than 1% of the children were female. This tells us that the Priests guilty of these atrocities or in fact homosexual. That's not to say all child molesters are homosexual and all homosexuals are child molesters, simply which in the case of the Catholic Church incidents, homosexuality is the primary factor. Understanding that fact, allows you to understand why the child molestation problem is so prevalent in the Priesthood.

They are devout believers that happen to be homosexual and in being so, believe their feelings are wrong. They turn to the church and God for help. The fact that these men commit their acts of evil is proof that God does not exist. He does not answer their prayers for help. He does not protect the innocent who are harmed by these men. The flock is without its shepard.

This is what Cardinal Law and the rest of the Catholic Church feared. They saw the power they had slipping away if thoughts like these were allowed to grow. Thus, they sought to silence the accusations and hide the crimes.

Have fun,
